The Importance of Drinking Water After a Massage
We all know it’s important to drink water every day, but did you know it’s even more important to drink water post your massage? We don’t just say it for fun.

Water is the major component of the human body, accounting for approximately 73% of lean body mass. (1). When you ask how much water you should drink, commonly the answer is 8 glasses or 2 litres a day.
According to The Australian Government – National Health and Medical Research Council (2018, https://www.nrv.gov.au/nutrients/water) if you are female and over 19 years old or male and aged between 14-18 years old, the recommended amount of water you should drink is 2 litres a day.  However, if you are outside this range then your requirements change. For example, if you are male and over 19 you would be looking at around 10 cups or 2.6 litres a day. This recommendation doesn’t take into account how active you are or the temperature of your environment.  The more active you are and the hotter it is, the more water you require.

During your massage, metabolic waste is released into your system. To remove this waste your body will increase lymphatic and blood flow which may require more water, therefore increasing your need for water consumption. By increasing your water intake you may aid your body in removing these toxins making you feel better post massage and reducing symptoms of fatigue.

So, the next time you have your massage enjoy a glass of water on us and make sure you increase your water intake for the next 24 hours. Your body will thank you for it!
