Do I need to remove my clothes for massage? No you don’t have to remove your clothes, but it does help to take the clothing off in the area being treated to get the best benefits. How long should I allow for a massage? Here at Catalyst Health and Wellness Group (CHWG) our initial massage length is 40mins this allows for your therapist to sit and discuss concerns and complete any assessments while also performing your initial treatment. Follow up treatment length is dependent on the area of the body that you would like to have worked on and how much work you need on that area. For example a full body massage takes generally 60mins however some like 90mins, Back neck and shoulders normally allow 40mins, just neck and shoulders allow 30mins. How often should I get a massage? This will be determined on case by case scenario, however most that present with acute tightness or pain may require some intensive treatment a massage a week for the first few weeks followed by a stepping out to 2,3 or 4 weekly. Also recommended is regular follow up massages to keep on top of this tightness to minimise relapse in this acute pain, again this is different from client to client, here at CHWG we currently have clients that come back weekly, fortnightly, 3 weekly, 4 weekly, 6 weekly or even 2 monthly. Mostly clients are between 2-4 weekly for their regular massage. Some things that you should consider is: Lifestyle (what type of work do you do, is it causing your pain, do you play sport and would like to be the best you can be), what are your stress levels, where are you at financially (as I would rather someone came every 2 months rather than coming monthly for 6 months and then I don’t see them for another 6 months) lets work within your means. What is your goal (improved ROM, Decreased pain, wellness, decreased stress, minimise headaches/migraines, increase circulation just to name a few). Why should I get a regular massage? Studies show that getting a regular massage may Decrease BP, Decrease Stress levels, Decrease Pain, Improve productivity, increase ROM, Increase Circulation. So I look forward to seeing you at the Clinic in the near future to make this lifestyle change and be a better version of you. by Ben Hewitt
