Yes, it is common sense to maintain proper hygiene by washing your hands with warm soap and water or by using antibacterial sanitizer.

Even the best toaster in the world can not convert bread into toast unless it is plugged into a power source.

Similarly, eating a nutritious diet and taking supplements (if you choose to), does not guarantee that your body will be able to convert that food into healthy, strong, living tissue unless you are connected to a power source.

And by connection to a power source, I am referring to the neurological connection between your brain and every cell, tissue and organ in your body.

Do I need to remove my clothes for massage?
No you don’t have to remove your clothes, but it does help to take the clothing off in the area being treated to get the best benefits.

How long should I allow for a massage?
Here at Catalyst Health and Wellness Group (CHWG) our initial massage length is 40mins this allows for your therapist to sit and discuss concerns and complete any assessments while also performing your initial treatment. Follow up treatment length is dependent on the area of the body that you would like to have worked on and how much work you need on that area. For example a full body massage takes generally 60mins however some like 90mins, Back neck and shoulders normally allow 40mins, just neck and shoulders allow 30mins.

Osteoarthritis and Nutrition
Importantly when looking into osteoarthritis, looking into what you eat and how much can impact your health and movement when you have knee or hip problems.  It is important to take the pressure off joints and reduce inflammation and swelling.  Having sufficient Vitamin D will also assist bone health by preventing the breakdown of cartilage and reduce the risk of the joint spaces narrowing.

Apart from getting valuable sunshine exposure (yes I know, it’s Ballarat) another factor may be weight loss.  If needed we can discuss the Ultra Lite weight management program as it is a perfect start to assist in managing your weight.

 Healthy of Just Not Sick...?
Do you want to be healthy or just not sick? This is one of the first questions I ask my patients when they are considering starting Chiropractic care.

It is very important to establish someone’s health objectives and intended outcomes from the outset. For some patients, all they want is to ‘feel better’, in other words, to be ‘less sick’, whilst for others, they want to achieve greater levels of well-being, beyond the resolution of their aches and pains.

For some of you reading this, you might be thinking, ‘what is the difference between being healthy and just being ‘not sick’?

 How to Manage Stress
The school year can be daunting for some children and even for parents as well. The simplest things such as not having your best friend from last year in your class, to juggling all the different after school sports can lead to an individual becoming stressed without even realising.

Studies have show that there is a significant relationship between the amount of daily stress you experience and your general well being. Those experiencing higher levels of stress are more prone  to health problems such as flu, sore throat, headaches, and backaches (1). Therefore it is important to manage stress levels to ensure that you and your child are getting the best out of yourselves!

 Cranials, The Forgotten Joints
For many years, many health professionals and patients alike, have thought that the bones of the skull were fused together and were immovable.

Chiropractors however, have long known that not only are these bones capable of movement, but that jarring of their alignment and movement (called a cranial lesion or subluxation), can sometimes have a profound effect on how you feel and function.
